IPL Hair Removal

Intense Pulsed Light or IPL therapy can be useful for removing and reducing unwanted hair from any area of the body for both women and men. Dark hair growth can be a problem and a monthly trip to the salon to be treated. You can finally be free of that chore. This IPL series can treat any area of the body from the forehead, upper lip, sides of the face, chin, neck, underarms, areola, around the navel, bikini line or full bikini, arms, legs, hands, and fingers. Men often want to treat the ear rims, nose, chest or back. If the hair has pigment, it can be treated successfully long-term.

Questions and Answers

How many IPL Hair Removal treatments will I need?

For hair reduction/removal with IPL, most need between 6-10 treatments for adequate hair reduction.

How often do I need to come for IPL Hair Removal treatments?

Treatment interval is dependent on the area being done. For example, for the face and neck area, treatments are performed about every 4 weeks. The bikini and underarm areas are done every 4-6 weeks, whereas the arms, legs, and back are treated every 8-10 weeks. Why? Well, these treatment intervals are dependent on how long the hairs tend to stay in an actively growing cycle. The IPL will only be successful in treating actively growing hairs. Our target is to treat new actively growing hairs, so we want to treat new active growing hairs each treatment.

Why do I need maintenance sessions?

It is not uncommon to have a few hairs develop growth after a few months. This stimulation can occur due to hormonal stimulation, vascular regrowth and other causes. If you have no regrowth, then there is no need for a maintenance session.

What do IPL Hair Removal treatments feel like?

The treatment applicator uses a contact cooling system, therefore you will feel a cooling before, during, and after each pulse. The pulse feels like a hot rubber band snap, but is very tolerable.

What will my skin look like after IPL Hair Removal

Your skin may appear slightly pink around each hair follicle that is treated. This dissipates quickly, so you may not notice any change once your treatment session has been completed.

What do I need to avoid during IPL treatments?

You will need to avoid waxing and tweezing during your treatments. You should stop doing this at least 4 weeks before treatments. You can continue to shave, but allow at least 2-3 days of growth before your treatments.

What should I avoid after IPL treatment?

Avoid any sun exposure or tanning of any kind for at least 14 days. Broad spectrum sunscreen is required for a minimum of 30 days with SPF 30+. I recommend using a mineral-based formula and clothing protection. Additionally, aerobic exercise, heat, hot baths, rough sports, massage of the area should be avoided for at least 5 days.
